Classic "Teddy and the Bear" mechanical bank patented 1907 by J.E. Stevens Co, Connecticut and designed by Charles Bailey.Heavy cast iron. Made famous by Teddy Roosevelt's hunting exploits. Cock the barrel, place coin on top, press lever and coin is shot into tree slot as bear emerges from the top of stump. On the bottom it says "Pat. Applied For. Great conversation piece. Original, of course.

Historical Notes

In 1902, President Roosevelt went bear hunting. While hunting, other hunters had captured a small bear and Teddy Roosevelt refused to kill the bear saying that would be "unsportsmanlike." The story spread around the country and newspapers began publishing political cartoons about Teddy and the Bear.
