Tammany Hall, also known as the Society of St. Tammany, the Sons of St. Tammany, or the Columbian Order, was a New York City political organization founded in 1786. It was the Democdratic political machine that controlled New York City politics with, as some people described it - an iron fist of corruption. This is an invitation from 1868 to the viewing of the organizations new Tammany Bilding and the grand Hall for the National Democratic Convention to be held a few days later. Original, of course, and includes the name of William M. "Boss" tweed the Chairman Tamnnay Hall General Committee on the invitation - twice in fact.
