William McKinley for President Campaign Match Safe Vesta. With raised portrait of McKinley on both sides and "For President" above. Match safes were used to protect matches form water and other elements, and could also store other items. Original.
March safes also called pocked vestas were dsigned to hold matches which avoided the potential for friction style matches to catch fire if carried loosely and rubbed together. Match safes were popular between 1850 to 1915
